Excited to have been part and -continue to be- in this initiative that looks into pathways of scaling health innovations in the public sector. One of the key lessons when articulating demand is getting the priorities right. This month marks an interesting 2 year journey supporting the county department of health in identifying and in the selection health innovations through suitable public sector scaling mechanisms for innovations that are aligned to county priorities, attract and allocate resources needed for adoption and scaling of the innovations with a bid to institutionalise sustainable processes for scaling health innovations within the public sector processes. This intervention will definitely be an earmark for playing a comprehensive role in improving health outcomes and thus build resilient and sustainable health systems.

The framework in use is the mountain model that allows the team in this instance ‘select cohort’ look at validating its priorities. The County department of health identified its a priorities as follows:

  1. Health information management systems

2. Maternal and new-born care services

3. Level 1 care: Community health services sustainability

4. Health human resources management
While we are now at scale up having identified 3 innovations, truly, this is the nexus of the next big chapter
It’s also been a year since we did the call for application, a representation of the journey that has been.
